Energy Price Reductions Reach Regional Queensland Households and Businesses

Power bills for households and businesses in regional Queensland have decreased following the implementation of new energy pricing measures. Savings are estimated at approximately 7 per cent for residential customers and 8 per cent for small businesses within the Ergon Energy network, effective from July 1. In South East Queensland, regulatory data indicates reductions between 7.2 and 10.7 per cent for households and 10.4 to 14 per cent for small businesses.

Local business owners have reported tangible benefits from these adjustments. Gary Wilson, a Toowoomba-based ice cream shop owner, noted that his electricity costs dropped by about 13 per cent in the quarter following July. He emphasized that such savings are critical for businesses with high energy demands, such as those requiring continuous refrigeration.

While Ergon Energy is passing these savings directly to customers, energy retailers in South East Queensland have been encouraged to ensure similar reductions are reflected in their billing structures. The price adjustments are part of a broader strategy aimed at stabilizing costs and improving system reliability through infrastructure improvements and economic planning.
