Eraring Power Station will continue operating until April 2029, according to a notification from its operator to energy authorities and the stock exchange. The decision provides stability for workers, energy markets, and consumers across NSW.
The extension helps maintain energy supply while supporting the state’s goal to reduce emissions by 2030. Current forecasts show NSW will have enough power when the station closes, with new renewable generation and storage projects coming online.
The agreement with the operator ensures a smooth transition from coal-fired power while keeping costs stable. The arrangement has not required funding from taxpayers so far.
