More free training will be available for plumbers, electricians, and other energy workers across Victoria.
The new training includes fully funded courses for installing electric vehicle (EV) chargers. Demand for workers who can install EV charging equipment is expected to grow to around 14,300 across the state.
The training will be delivered by Solar Victoria in partnership with TAFE Gippsland, Holmesglen, and the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA).
Free training will also be available for electrical workers to upgrade switchboards for home electrification and install reverse cycle air conditioners. Training for efficient hot water system installation will continue because of strong demand.
The training is part of the $5 million Electrification Skills Training Program. The program aims to build a skilled workforce to support the growing use of energy-saving technology.
So far, more than 6,100 workers have completed training through the program. Around 2,100 workers have also taken part in mentoring support.
Demand for electricians, plumbers, and other energy workers is expected to remain strong through 2040. The energy workforce is forecast to grow by 50 percent to around 68,000 jobs by that year.
About 37 percent of these jobs are expected to be in regional Victoria. This is expected to provide around $18 billion in wages for regional workers.
