Grants Open for Smarter Water Use Across Victoria

New funding is now available to support smarter water use across Victoria. The focus is on keeping community spaces green and healthy. The funding supports water recycling and stormwater use.

A total of $24 million is available through the Integrated Water Management Grants. The grants support projects that use recycled water and stormwater for community and environmental benefit.

Applications are open to local councils, Traditional Owner groups, water corporations, and catchment management authorities. The application period closes on 9 February 2026.

Funding supports a wide range of infrastructure projects. These include stormwater recovery systems, new wetlands for water treatment, and upgrades to recycled water systems. The aim is to reduce the use of drinking water.

Support is also available for research and planning work. These activities help prepare future projects for delivery on the ground.

Separate funding streams cover metropolitan and regional areas. Regional communities affected by drought can access upgrades that protect local water supplies.

One funding stream supports projects led by Traditional Owner groups. Another stream focuses on large projects that need quick delivery. These projects support sustainable urban growth.

The grants program has already invested $72.8 million in more than 170 projects. Partner groups have contributed over $166 million in additional funding.

Past projects include rainwater collection systems in Warrnambool. These systems capture water from building roofs at a local sporting precinct. The water supports city supply.

Another project delivers recycled water from the Werribee Treatment Plant to Werribee Zoo. A 2.5 kilometre pipeline supplies 150 million litres each year. The water supports animal habitats and irrigation.

Ongoing investment in water reuse helps recycle billions of litres each year. This approach reduces pressure on drinking water supplies.
