A new robotic welding machine has arrived at the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program site in Torbanlea. The machine is the first of its kind in Australia and will help assemble train cars with precision and speed.
The manufacturing facility is twice the size of Suncorp Stadium’s playing field. Structural work is complete and the internal fit-out is underway. Production of trains is expected to begin in 2026.
The Resistance Welding Robot allows multiple welding operations at once. Local teams will be trained to operate the machine. Recruitment is underway for 300 staff to work at the facility.
The facility will create high-skilled jobs in Maryborough. It will provide opportunities for tradies, apprentices, engineers, and other workers. The robot and other specialist equipment are part of the setup to ensure quality train production for Queensland’s public transport network.
The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program aims to support local manufacturing and provide long-term career opportunities in the region. The project represents a major milestone in high-tech manufacturing in the state.
