Australian Winders, a company based in Bayswater, will receive nearly $500,000 in funding to grow its capacity in the wind energy market. The investment comes from an $8 million partnership program that supports local manufacturers linked to the rise in wind energy projects.
The company, known as Australia's only maker of large coil components, will use the funding to improve automation, training, and quality management. Australian Winders plans to start by providing local repair and maintenance services for wind turbine coils. Over time, the company aims to produce new coils for original equipment manufacturers and wind farms. This will replace products that are currently imported.
The project is expected to create around 25 new jobs and generate an estimated $17.8 million in extra revenue over the next five years.
The Wind Energy Manufacturing Co-Investment Program helps local businesses join and grow within wind energy supply chains. It offers up to half of eligible project costs, with companies matching the funding to ensure strong partnerships.
The program supports manufacturers at different stages, including entering the market and expanding their growth.
Australian Winders’ managing director, Tony O’Brien, said the funding will help meet rising demand and secure new contracts. He added the expansion will strengthen the company’s role as a key domestic supplier and open doors to new opportunities.
The Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre, which works alongside the program, highlighted the potential of Australian manufacturing. Managing director Dr Jens Goennemann said the project will allow Australian Winders to grow from repair work to making new coils locally, reducing reliance on imports.
This funding and support come at a time when local manufacturing is seen as vital for economic growth and the clean energy future.
