A new $50 million training centre in Morwell will help prepare workers for jobs in Australia’s growing renewable energy industry.
The Victorian Renewable Energy TAFE Centre of Excellence has been established at TAFE Gippsland’s Morwell campus. The centre will provide training in renewable energy technologies, including smart electricity networks and home electrification services.
Training will be available through the national TAFE network with support from several education providers, including South West TAFE, Holmesglen Institute, and Federation TAFE.
The project includes a new $15 million renewable energy digital training facility at the Morwell campus. It also includes $10 million in upgrades to the existing Electricity Supply Industry Training Centre at Holmesglen’s Chadstone campus.
The Morwell campus will be the main location for the centre. It will work with industry partners to provide workers with the skills needed for a low-carbon future.
The centre will focus on:
- Training workers to support renewable energy generation and storage systems.
- Developing digital classrooms, research facilities, and industry-based training programs.
- Using virtual reality technology to simulate renewable energy workplaces, including offshore wind and transmission projects.
- Providing training and qualifications for the energy supply industry.
- Giving students access to large-scale renewable energy equipment.
The centre will help develop new skills for renewable energy jobs and support the growth of the clean energy industry.
It is the 18th TAFE Centre of Excellence announced under the National Skills Agreement. It is also the fourth centre of its kind in Victoria.
The project aims to place Gippsland at the forefront of renewable energy training and create more opportunities for local workers to build careers in future industries.
