A new advanced manufacturing facility has opened in Bayswater, creating new jobs and supporting growth in Victoria’s defence industry.
The facility will create 49 highly skilled jobs and produce in-arm suspension units for armoured vehicles.
Local production in Victoria is expected to strengthen the state’s supply chain. The local assembly work is estimated to contribute around $45 million over six years.
The facility will use advanced manufacturing technology and knowledge from a technology-sharing partnership with a leading South Korean company. This will help improve local manufacturing skills and strengthen Victoria’s defence capabilities.
Support for the new facility was provided through supply chain investment programs designed to help local businesses take part in defence manufacturing projects.
The programs are part of a wider Victorian Land Systems Fund, which helps local companies join major defence supply chains and expand their operations.
Victoria’s defence industry contributes about $10.9 billion in direct annual spending and $1.7 billion in exports. The sector supports around 29,000 local jobs.
The new facility is expected to create more opportunities for local manufacturers, support innovation, and strengthen Victoria’s role in advanced defence technology.
