A new Tech School has opened at Chisholm Institute's Dandenong campus. The $14 million facility will give more than 13,000 secondary students free access to hands-on STEM learning.
Students from 23 schools will visit the Tech School as part of their regular studies. They will use modern technology such as robots, drones, virtual reality, and cybersecurity tools. They will also take part in practical activities, including building robots, creating virtual reality projects, and solving cyber security challenges.
The programs are based on real workplace technology. They help students learn skills used in industries such as advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity.
The Tech School is located on a tertiary education campus. This gives students a chance to learn about future study and career options.
Research has found that Tech Schools help increase student interest in STEM subjects. They also help students learn about careers that are in high demand.
The Dandenong Tech School is the second of six new Tech Schools planned across Victoria. Four more schools will open in Brimbank, Hume, Wangaratta, and South West Victoria by the end of 2026. When all six schools are open, more than 62,000 students will have access to free hands-on STEM learning.
The new facility aims to encourage more young people to explore STEM education and future careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
