A new tap and go payment option is being introduced across Victoria’s train network, making public transport easier for passengers.
Following a successful trial on the Craigieburn, Upfield, Ballarat, and Seymour lines, as well as City Loop stations, the service will expand to more train lines from 7 June.
The rollout will happen in stages. The first stage will include the Sunbury, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Metro Tunnel, Werribee, Williamstown, Sandringham, Frankston, Stony Point, Bendigo, Gippsland, and Geelong lines.
From 14 June, tap and go will also be available on the Mernda, Hurstbridge, Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, and Glen Waverley lines.
After the rollout is complete, passengers will be able to tap on and travel at all myki-enabled train stations across Victoria using a bank card, smartphone, or smartwatch.
More than 88,500 tap and go trips have been completed since the trial started in March. About four in five trips were made using a phone or smartwatch.
Station staff will provide support to passengers during the rollout.
Passengers who use concession cards, senior cards, or free Youth myki should continue using their existing cards. Travellers in areas where myki is not available should continue using paper tickets or eTickets.
Passengers can also continue using myki if they prefer.
