$16.5 Million Allocated for EV Charging Infrastructure Expansion

With over 155,000 electric vehicles (EVs) now registered in NSW, a new $16.5 million funding package has been announced to expand charging infrastructure. The initiative includes $5 million in co-funding for charge point operators to install kerbside chargers in 37 local government areas, particularly targeting apartment residents who lack home charging options. Grants of up to $6,000 per AC port and $30,000 per DC fast-charging port are available, with all sites required to use 100 percent renewable electricity.

An additional $11.5 million is allocated to help businesses, councils, and non-government organizations electrify their fleets. This grant targets entities with large vehicle pools, offering up to $8,000 per DC fast-charging port. To date, government funding has supported the installation of more than 3,300 chargers across over 1,200 sites statewide. Recent data indicates that EV sales in Australia recently surpassed petrol car sales for the first time.
