Energy Safety Roadmap Released to Protect Workers and Consumers

Victoria has released a new Energy Safety Roadmap to protect energy workers and consumers. The plan strengthens safety standards as new technologies become part of everyday life.

The Roadmap covers modernising regulations and preparing workers and households for changes in the energy system. Victoria is bringing new renewable energy online. Homes and businesses are becoming more energy efficient. Safety rules need to keep up with these changes.

More households are using solar panels, batteries, electric vehicle chargers, e-bikes, and e-scooters. The Roadmap sets clear actions to manage safety risks. Product standards and labelling will be improved. Unsafe or defective products can be recalled quickly. Guidance on installation and maintenance will help prevent accidents.

The plan focuses on workforce training. Electrical workers, plumbers, and gasfitters will have updated licensing requirements. Workers will receive the skills needed to handle new technologies safely.

Energy safety regulation will also be modernised. Legislation and oversight will be reviewed. Energy Safe Victoria will have the tools and resources needed to regulate a changing energy system.

The Roadmap follows a $7 million Energy Safety Review. The review involved consultation with industry and analysis of current safety systems. Implementation begins in early 2026. Industry, unions, and regulators will work together to put the actions into practice.
