Queensland’s growing digital games sector has received a major boost, with $1.25 million in funding going to nine local studios. The investment aims to create jobs, grow local talent, and strengthen the state’s position as one of Australia’s leading hubs for games development.
Queensland is now the second largest state for games development in the country. It is home to about a quarter of Australia’s games studios and more than a quarter of its games developers. The national sector contributes almost $350 million to the economy each year.
The new funding will help studios develop their next projects, which often take years to complete. Screen Queensland said its Games Grants program plays a key role in supporting small and mid-sized studios to bring creative ideas to life and grow into sustainable businesses.
In the last financial year, Screen Queensland supported 30 games, helping to create 263 jobs and generating more than $15 million in local spending. The grants have encouraged many developers to build their careers in Queensland and produce games that reach global audiences.
Local studios receiving funding are expected to use the investment to expand teams, develop original content, and attract international partnerships. The support aims to keep Queensland talent local and ensure the state continues to build its reputation as a creative leader in digital entertainment.
