Digital Driver Licence Upgrade Piloted in Western Sydney and Blue Mountains

A major upgrade to the NSW Digital Driver Licence is being piloted for motorists in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains. The $11.5 million investment aims to enhance security and convenience ahead of a statewide rollout planned for next year. The updated licence allows users to generate secure QR codes via the Service NSW app, enabling instant age verification at participating venues without sharing unnecessary personal information.

The new system meets international security standards and reduces the risk of identity misuse. Over 19,000 residents in the pilot regions have already registered for the upgrade. The technology is currently being tested with licensed clubs and venues, including Panthers Penrith Leagues Club. This initiative follows a period where over seven million people used digital verification to enter pubs and clubs across the state.
