An expanded round of environmental grants is now open to help reduce air pollution in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The Air Quality Improvement Precincts (AQIP) program aims to create healthier, more liveable communities by funding local initiatives that reduce emissions and improve air quality.
This round of grants is available to local councils, schools, community groups, research institutions, and businesses across the municipalities of Melton, Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Port Phillip, Hobsons Bay, and Wyndham.
With a total of $1 million in funding available, the program will support a wide range of projects including cleaner technologies, infrastructure upgrades, and localized solutions to reduce pollution from dust, smoke, and industrial sources.
The AQIP program builds on two earlier funding rounds that supported pollution reduction efforts by local businesses. This expansion allows a broader range of stakeholders to take part in improving air quality.
In addition to grant funding, broader efforts to address pollution in Melbourne’s west include traffic management strategies that aim to reduce the number of heavy vehicles on residential roads. These efforts are part of a larger environmental strategy focused on transitioning to cleaner energy and zero-emissions transport.
